After a very long 1 ½ days, we have made it safe and sound to Guatemala. We took off from Bismarck at 1:00pm Monday and finally were picked up by the GOD’s CHILD Project at 6:00am on Tuesday.
After a very short rest and breakfast with our host families, we headed off to the Dreamer Center for orientation and a tour. We were pleasantly surprised to be able to witness a closing graduation ceremony for the Dreamer Center school for the 1st and 6th graders. Patrick Atkinson, founder of the GOD’s CHILD Project happened to be in Antigua so we were blessed to have him deliver part of the orientation. After 6 trips here, I am continually amazed at the growth of this tremendous organization. We will be blessed over these next 2 weeks to be able to take part in several of their programs.
This afternoon, the group traveled to a nearby village to listen, learn, and take part in a presentation by a group of indigenous Mayan women about the traditions, customs, and foods. We were even able to try our hand at making tortillas and grinding coffee. Brent and Megan were good sports to play the roles of a couple going through the rites of matrimony.
We will be having an early night tonight as we will be picked up tomorrow at 6:30am to head to an outpatient pediatric physical therapy clinic in the am and a clothing distribution drive in the pm.
