Weekend fun
This weekend, everyone was treated to a terrific 2 days of fun, relaxation, and further immersion into the Guatemalan culture. 1/2 of the group headed out Saturday am to a nearby orphanage which is run by the Franciscan nuns. Approximately 60 children live there. We all had a wonderful time playing "duck duck goose" as well as with pinatas.

Once again, it was difficult to say goodbye. We then drove to Lake Atitlan and Panajachel - the scenery was beautiful. We were treated to terrific food, shopping, and a hotel with hot water and clean rooms. Sunday morning, we went to Chichicastenengo. Thursdays and Sundays they hold the region's largest open air market. It was quite overwhelming to have shoulder to shoulder people for blocks and blocks but the colors were rich and the bartering was fun! Currently, we are waiting for the rest of the group to return from their weekend excursion to Tikal. We look forward to hearing their stories.
We are rested and ready for our 4 days of homebuilding. |
