Happy All Saint’s Day everyone (Feliz Dia de los Santos)! We had an amazing day geting totally immersed in the rich culture of the indigenous Mayan people.

This morning, we traveled to Sumpango, a nearby village that is famous for its kite flying celebration. The kites are 20’ to 50’ in diameter and have very detailed pictures on them made completely of cut tissue paper. Words can hardly describe their beauty and detail. In the afternoon, we returned to watch as they attempted to fly them – it reminded us of the running of the bulls except you would run from very large kites!

We also walked through a very large cemetery that was crowded with people painting and decorating the gravesites. It was wonderful to be able to witness this 1x/year holiday.
