Track III

The Master of Science degree in occupational therapy for returning occupational therapists is designed in accelerated format to accommodate needs of the adult learner. The program of study is intended to prepare graduates to assume a role of servant-leader within the field of occupational therapy and across emerging service delivery systems. Leadership opportunities are created with learners and their mentors to enhance skills in program development, to integrate evidence-based practice, and to create mastery in a practice area. The post-professional program of study is founded in the Benedictine tradition and leadership vision of the University of Mary, the Occupational Therapy Practice Guidelines (AJOT, 1999), and the OT Practice Framework (AJOT, 2002). These elements provide the basis for scholarship, valuing, and professional competence. The design of courses captures trends in the health care environment such as occupation-based practice, evidence-based practice, outcome evaluation, entrepreneurship, servant-leadership, and innovative practice.

A Program Designed to Fit Your Life and Recognize Your Expertise

The program of study is designed to meet the needs of busy, working professionals and to offer the opportunity for completion of a graduate degree in as few as 14 months. Courses are formatted to recognize adult learner expertise, to enable learners to engage in advanced study and research under guidance of a professor, and to allow for immediate application of new knowledge in the workplace. Class size is kept small to create a learning environment replete with opportunity for active participation and interaction, field study, and mentored scholarly activity.
