U-Mary: Values in Action
|
 |
At U-Mary, We Believe Putting Values Into Action Benefits Students, the University, the Community, and the World!
The Benedictine values of our founders and sponsors, the Sisters of Annunciation Monastery continue to provide the foundation for our growth as America's Leadership University and the growth of our students as leaders in their personal and professional lives.
Community We put time and effort into caring for and supporting one another and in being positive, contributing members of our community. We promote community activities that foster growth and development. We strive to be generous in sharing our gifts with one another and in pursuit of community goals. We commit ourselves to stewardship of the community's facilities, resources, and reputation. We agree to respect and honor the policies and expectations of the community.
Hospitality We strive to always be welcoming of others, both as individuals and as a community. We are intentional in our efforts to provide a place for people to feel accepted and valued as children of God. We believe that in the practice of Christian hospitality, both "host" and "guest" profit and Christ is made present in our interactions with one another.
Respect for Persons We recognize and value the unique God-given gifts of each individual. We are committed to nurturing and encouraging each person's journey towards wholeness (holiness). We strive to embrace diversity, learn from our differences, and encourage each individual to more fully develop his or her gifts.
Prayer We reflect upon God's presence in our life and in the life of our community. We ask God to teach us and guide us in all we do. We reserve time for individual prayer, and we come together as a community in liturgical celebration and communal prayer.
Service We are committed to being of service to others and to our community. We believe that service to others benefits those who serve as well as those served. With Jesus Christ as our example and witness, we strive to build up the community as servant-leaders.
Moderation We strive for balance and measuredness that avoids excess and reflects our belief that life is integrative. We believe in development of the whole person. We seek to practice physical, emotional, and spiritual wellness as individuals and as a community.
